FDR makes it official
With the signature of President Franklin Roosevelt on August 5, 1937, the creationof the National Cancer Institute was official. An independent division of the Public Health Service, NCI was transferred to the National Institutes of Health in 1944. Its goals were to develop efficient ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
