Dr. Smith received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Vermont where she studied regulation of the alpha-fetoprotein gene by glucocorticoids. She pursued postdoctoral studies at NIH, first with Dr. Stephen Marx, studying vitamin D receptor function, and second, with Dr. Gordon Hager studying regulation of the mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) promoter in chromatin. She is currently a tenure track investigator leading the Signal Transduction Group. Her laboratory investigates the interaction of the progesterone receptor with target genes in chromatin as well as cAMP-induced transcriptional repression of the mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) promoter.
