General:
The Laboratory of Molecular Biology periodically has openings for outstanding
postdoctoral fellows and summer students. Applications from minorities
and women are encouraged.
Please
direct inquiries to the relevant section chiefs.
Postdoctoral
Opening: a postdoctoral position is available to study new targets
for the therapy of prostate and breast cancer. Using the EST database,
new genes specifically expressed in prostate and breast cancer are being
identified. These genes will be cloned and characterized and the
function of the gene elucidated. A strong background in molecular
biology is required. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D. degree
and should have less than five years postdoctoral experience. Send
a CV and Bibliography and contact information of three references to: Ira
Pastan, M.D., Laboratory of Molecular biology, National Cancer Institute,

Postdoctoral Opening:
A postdoctoral position is available to use antibody engineering and
page display to develop new therapies for cancer. Recombinant immunotoxins
are constructed by fusing the
Fv portions of antibodies
to a mutant form of Pseudomonas Exotoxin A. Phage display is used
to increase the affinity of the antibody and to isolate new antibodies.
Several recombinant immunotoxins prepared by this approach are now being
evaluated in humans and in some cases have caused partial or complete tumor
regressions. Send a CV and Bibliography plus contact information
of three references to: Ira Pastan, M.D., Laboratory of Molecular Biology,

Postdoctoral Opening:
The Laboratory of Molecular Biology at the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda,
MD, is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship position.
The Laboratory is currently developing recombinant immunotoxins for clinical
trials, and is now in the process of making new recombinant antibodies
as ligands by screening phage libraries obtained from immunized animals.
The position will be supervised by Robert
J. Kreitman, M.D., who is developing recombinant toxins in the lab
for the treatment of hematologic malignancies and is directing such clinical
trials at the NIH clinical center. The Laboratory of Molecular Biology,
under the direction of Ira Pastan, M.D., is developing recombinant toxins
for solid tumors in addition to hematologic malignancies.
